MY STORY & PHILOSOPHY
I am an artist and designer with a lifelong connection to surfing. Years ago, I wanted my daughter to experience the ocean like I had, so I decided we would make her first surfboard together. Shaping boards was something I had done in the past, and this felt like the perfect way to reconnect with the craft.
When we visited SurfSource in Jacksonville to gather materials, I noticed something surprising—the tools available hadn’t changed in over 30 years, aside from becoming more expensive. While looking at a set of calipers, I turned to my daughter and said, We’ll make the tools ourselves. Brian Christianson from SurfSource overheard the conversation and asked me to send him what I came up with. I built a caliper, sent it to him, and soon after, he asked for ten more. That moment sparked what would become FoamOcean.
At the heart of FoamOcean is my passion for design and a deep belief in innovation through trial and error. Surfing has shaped my life, and I’ve always admired the culture and the creators who push it forward. I love the simplicity of great design—how a surfboard, in its purest form, connects seamlessly to the ocean. I also believe that the tools we use don’t just assist the craft; they influence the evolution of surfing itself.
Foam Ocean is my way of contributing to a growing industry and an ever-evolving art form. I’m grateful to be part of a community that values creativity, craftsmanship, and the pursuit of something better.
